Introduction to Nesebar

In modern times, Nesebar is a major tourist attraction in what has become a popular area with several large resorts—the largest, Sunny Beach, is situated immediately to the north of Nesebar. Nesebar has on several occasions found itself on the frontier of a threatened empire, and as such it is a town with a rich history. The ancient part of the town is situated on a peninsula (previously an island) connected to the mainland by a narrow man-made isthmus, and it bears evidence of occupation by a variety of different civilisations over the course of its existence. Its abundance of historic buildings prompted UNESCO to include Nesebar in its list of World Heritage Sites in 1983. As of September 2005 Nesebar has a population of 10,194GRBulgaria and the mayor is Nikolay Trifonov.The town lies at 42°39′N, 27°44′E.

History
Originally a Thracian settlement known as Menebria founded in the 2nd millennium BC, the town became a Greek colony when settled by Dorians from Megara at the beginning of the 6th century BC, and was an important trading centre from then on and a rival of Apollonia (Sozopol). Remains from the Hellenistic period include the acropolis, a temple of Apollo, and an agora. A wall which formed part of the Greek fortifications can still be seen on the north side of the peninsula. Bronze and silver coins were minted in the city since the 5th century BC and gold coins since the 3rd century BC.
The town fell under Roman rule in 71 BC, yet continued to enjoy privileges such as the right to mint its own coinage. It was one of the most important strongholds of the Byzantine Empire from the 5th century AD onwards, and was fought over by Byzantines and Bulgarians, being captured in 812 by Khan Krum after a two week siege only to be ceded back to Byzantium by Knyaz Boris I in 864 and reconquered by his son Tsar Simeon the Great. During the time of the Second Bulgarian Empire it was also contested by Bulgarian and Byzantine forces and enjoyed particular prosperity under Bulgarian tsar Ivan Alexander (1331-1371) until it was conquered by Crusaders led by Amadeus VI, Count of Savoy in 1366 and handed back to Byzantium. The Slavic version of the name, Nesebar or Mesebar, has been attested since the 11th century.
Monuments from the Middle Ages include the 5-6th century Stara Mitropoliya ("old bishopric"; also St Sophia), a basilica without a transept; the 10th century church of the Virgin; and the 11th century Nova Mitropoliya ("new bishopric"; also St Stephen) which continued to be embellished until the 18th century. In the 13th and 14th century a remarkable series of churches were built: St Theodore, St Paraskeva, St Michael and St Gabriel, and St John Aliturgetos.The capture of the town by the Turks from the Byzantine Empire in 1453 marked the start of its decline, but its architectural heritage remained and was enriched in the 19th century by the construction of wooden houses in the Eastern Rumelian style typical for the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast during this period. After the Liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule in 1878, Nesebar became part of the autonomous Ottoman province of Eastern Rumelia until it united with the Principality of Bulgaria in 1886.Around the end of the 19th century Nesebar was a small town of Greek fishermen and vinegrowers, but developed as a key Bulgarian seaside resort since the beginning of the 20th century. After the departure of the greeks in 1925 a new town part was built and the historic Old Town was restored.

Houses of the national revival period

The wooden houses built in the end of XVIII c. and the beginning of the XIX c. are the best-preserved monuments from the time of the National Bulgarian Revival. They have their own original architecture which reveals the development of the typical Black Sea coast house and its significance as manifestation of the Bulgarian builder’s creative genius.
Constructed close one to another, the houses from the so characteristic narrow twisting streets that unexpectedly lead to the seacoast and create the unique atmosphere of harmony between Nature, man and town.The restored houses, more than 100 form picturesque architectural ensembles. One is situated around Ivan Alexander Street. Here the most interesting house is the one white washed second floor, decorated with the so-called shoulder-yoke. There is another ensemble near the Old Metropolitan church. Of great interest are the houses around the church St. Archangels Michael and Gabriel, especially the Nakov’s house and the Vardaliev’s, which is the only three-storied house.
The house of Moskoyani
Very famous is the house of Moskoyani made in 1840 on the South shore. It is remarkable architectural example. The living floor is spread out over the cellar. It possesses a rectangular dinning room with a carved ceiling. Around this room there are four large ones. During the cold winter months only the northern rooms were used warmed by the fireplaces.

The house of captain Pavel

The house of captain Pavel is built on the Southwest Coast near t he harbor station. Its entry gate is with a very interesting arch with a richly decorated outline. Looking at it, one gets the feeling that the second floor has just perched on the high stone cellar, used as a pub today.

The house of Jelu Bogdanov
The house of Jelu Bogdanov, built during the second part of the XIX c. faces the sea. Most of the architectural elements of the building are in baroque. The consoles, gracefully made in S-form are thick and the balcony-curved. A curved ceiling in the dinning room charms the visitors.

The Chimbulev’s house
The Chimbulev’s house – a typical pattern of the period, is situated on Mitropolitska Street. The facade is slopping, the second floor- covered with wood. There are overhanging jetties from three sides of the house.

The house of Ivan Markov
The house of Ivan Markov was built 130 years ago. It is A-shaped. The wooden ceilings of the rooms on the second floor have a rich geometric decoration.

The Lambrinov’s house
The Lambrinov’s house built in the middle of the XIX c. is near the coast, on Ivan Assen Street. Its corner position permits the projection of the jetties- so characteristic for the Nessebar houses. The most interesting thing here are the consoles of the jetties made as woodcarvings.

Churces of Nessebar

Nesebar is sometimes said to be the town with the highest number of churches per capita. Although this might be wrong, their number and variety is still impressive. Some of the most famous include:

The Church of Christ Pantocrator
The Church of Christ Pantocrator is located on the peninsula of Nesebar, Bulgaria. The church, along with the entire island and all of the historical structures are protected by UNESCO. The structure was erected in the 13th century and is a rare example of a religious structure which has not experienced significant changes through the centuries. Although small in dimensions (16 meters by 6.7 meters) this cross-domed church still remains one of the best examples of period architecture in European history. Other architectural features of the structure include three altar niches and a narthex. Also, there are semicircular apses inside and pentahedal located on the exterior. The facades of the building are segmented by richly decorated blind niches.

Church of St Sophia or the Old Bishopric
The Old Mitropolia is a three-naved unvaulted basilica with a total length of 19 m and a width of 13 m. The division into three naves was effected by two rows of five pillars each. The middle nave (9.3 m wide) ends to the east with a big closed apse, round outside and three-sided inside. Built in the 4th-5th century and rebuilt, it functioned as a church throughout the Middle Ages. It has mixed masonry: stone and brick. It is the largest of the Nesebar churches whose overground structure has survived.

The Church of St Ioan Aliturgetos
The Church of St Ioan Aliturgetos in Nesebar, Bulgaria was not consecrated, hence the name - "aliturgetos" is the Greek for "not consecrated". The legend says that one of the builders fell down and got killed. The church canon did not allow a place where a man had been killed, to be used for worship. But according to some records services were held in it. The church was badly damaged during the 1913 earthquake (Chirpansko earthquake). Its ruins in the southern part of the peninsula show that it must have been one of the most beautiful medieval churches in Nessebar. It is a cruciform dome church with three altar apses and a narthex. It is 18.5 m long and 10 m wide. The base of the cruciform part of the church is almost quadrangular, shaped by four columns. It has mixed masonry: stone and brick; the facade walls are segmented by blind two-step niches decorated with various geometrical patterns from bricks and stone cubes (ceramic plastic style). The church was built in the 14th century; it has two entrances, from the north and south, which is rare in the architecture of church buildings.

The Church of St John the Baptist
The Church of St John the Baptistin Nessebar, Bulgaria is a domed cruciform church, built of undressed stone. It's one of the best preserved in Nessebar. It is 12 m long and 10 wide. The structure of the church consists of two cylindrical vaults which intersect in the center of the composition. The masonry is crushed stone and pebbles and the facades were probably smoothly plastered. It was built in the 10th century.It has no narthex. The altar space consists of three semi-circular apses. Four massive pillars support the dome and form the cross. Inside the walls are smooth and unbroken. Some frescoes have been preserved dating from later periods. The faded portraits of the donor and his contemporaries on the southern wall and the fragments beneath the dome date from 14th c. and the others are from the 16th and 17th centuries. One depicts St. Marina pulling a devil from the sea before braining it with a hammer - possibly representing the local merchants' hopes that their patron would deal the the Cossack pirates who raided Nessebar in the 17th c. The exterior is simple without decorative niches and ceramic plaques, typical of the ornamental style. Bricks were used as a decorative element over the entrance, in the jagged cornices and around the windows. Nowadays the church houses a gallery.

The Basilica Holy Mother Eleusa
The Basilica Holy Mother Eleusa / Tenderness / was built in the North side of the peninsula. It is dated to the VI c. It is a three-nave church with three more apses and a nartex. The two side aisles have two smaller apses pointing the North and to the South. It is 28 m long and 18 m wide. In 1920 excavations and studying started here. Now the basilica is well preserved and partly restored.
The Medieval churches of Nessebar are the pearls in the precious string of ancient cultural monuments that can be seen nowadays. Some of them completely saved and some- partially, they are the hearts of the unique atmosphere of Nessebar.

The Church St. Archangels Gabriel and Michael
The Church St. Archangels Gabriel and Michael is situated close to St. Paraskeva Church. It is a single nave cruciform building, 13,90 m in length and 5,30 m in width. Its eastern side has three small tripartite apses. The fa?ade is arched. The decoration of the drums and the space above is similar of this of St. Paraskeva. The cornice line is dominated by the dome construction, its base being preserved till now. Niches, wall-piers and longitudinal walls reach complete harmony, linking functionality with decorativeness.

The Church St. Paraskeva
The Church St. Paraskeva/ XIII-XIV c. / is a single nave church, 15 m by 6 m in size, with a nartex. A pentagonal apse is jutting out to the East. The church is built of hewn stone and bricks in rows. The Southern and northern facades are ornamented with blind arches which drums are richly decorated. The motives are fishbone, sun zigzag, checker board etc. are made of stone and bricks too. Over them decorative ornaments - round and glazed saucers are walled in.
Result of later reconstruction, the roof of the church has two slopes. It is a typical cruciform church- the roof is formed as a cross and above it, in the central part, there is a drum with a dome. In the past there has been a bell-tower over the nartex. Its existence is proved by the stone stairway inside between the naos and the nartex.

The Church of St Theodore
The Church of St Theodore is dated to the XIII c. It is a single nave church, 11m by 4-m The Southern wall was enlarged in the late Middle Age. The earlier walls were made of rows of white limestone blocks and black bricks and the later on structures of rough stones. The fa?ade is diversified with blind decorative arches and spaces in between, ornamented with staggered zigzag patterns. Some icons on the iconostasis are preserved and today are exhibited in the new exposition.

The Church St. Stephent
The Church St. Stephent, known as The New Metropolitan is a significant monument - an important example of the Bulgarian medieval architecture. It was built in the end of the XI c. but later it was twice reconstructed - in the XVI c. when the naos was elongated and in the XVIII c. when a nartex was added. The construction is made of rough stone and bricks. The church is a three-nave basilica, 12 m long and 9,50 m wide. Marble columns and rectangular pillars with supporting arches separate the nave and the aisles. At the Eastern side there are three semicircular apses that end with arches too. The roof construction is in slopes. The central nave is taller than the aisles. Here, on the eastern fa?ade, over the arches, glazed decorative saucers were implemented for the first time. They became typical for the decoration of the churches built in the later centuries XVIII-XIX.
Inside, some 700 square meters are richly painted. A donator's inscription from 1599 over the main entrance allows the frescoes to be dated. At first the church was dedicated to the Holy Mother but later the name was changed. There are 258 mural paintings and more than 1000 figures. All the compositions represent the Holy Mother's life. The scenes from the cycle The Jesus Christ Miracles confirm once again the idea of the Holy Mother being a mediator between the Son of God and the God. The scenes of every day life prove the realism in the artists' work.
The style shows that three painters have worked - two of them on the Eastern part of the naos ant the third - on the Western. Later, in the XVIII c., the scenes of the Last Judgement day were painted on the eastern part of the nartex. The iconostasis, dated to the XVI c. is made of wood sparingly decorated with fretwork. It has three ranges but only two of the registers can be seen today. This of the Apostles, Holy Mother and St. John the Baptist is under the embossed arches. The picture of Jesus Christ from the same scene is of icon size.
The epistles of the iconostasis are decorated in oriental style known as tulip style.
The bishop's throne and the pulpit / XVIII c. / attract the interest with the carvings of plants as well as the golden fields full with polychrome.

The Church St. Spass
The Church St. Spass/ XVII C. / is a small single nave and single apse building, 11,70 m long and 5,70 m wide. Above the southern entrance there is a commemorative inscription which informs that the church was built and mural painted during the time of the bishop Kiprian / 1609 /.
The walls are almost all covered with frescoes. On the southern and northern walls there are compositions with scenes from the Gospel. Figures of Saints are painted under the compositions. The Virgin Platytera is painted in the apse.
The tombstone of a Byzantine princess Mataissa Cantacuzina is saved in the church. She had been buried in 1441 in the Old Metropolitan church but later the Nessebar bishop placed her body here.

The Church St. Climent
The Church St. Climent dated to the XVII c. is richly painted too. The central apse and the table in the altar are very well saved.

Fortification Walls

The sea was the first, but not the last bar against the attacks of the enemies. During the centuries a lot of fortified systems have been built which made of the peninsula an impregnable fortress.
After excavations and following conservation and restoration have started the discovered parts of the defense system became one of the imposing monuments of the past which welcomes and accompanies the guests of the ancient Nessebar today.
The first inhabitants on the peninsula – the Thracians, started the fortification of the settlement in the VIII c. BC. A fortified wall with a gate has been found from this period. It was made of hewn stone joined by mud. The wall that can be seen nowadays is 2 m high. The oval shaped bends of the walls typical for the Thracian building can be found on it. During the time of Hellenistic colonization / VI c. BC / the colonists from Megara did not start immediately the construction of a new defense system. They built a new wall later, in the end of the V c. and the beginning of the IV c. BC. The work lasted till the III c. BC. Big stone blocks were used, their face sides being specially polished, placed in line, without any solder. The inner part of the wall was felled with broken stones and soil. Some three meters of this wall are saved nowadays. The Greek wall was well studied in the west part of the town. It can be seen that in some places it overlaps the later one – the Byzantine.
Nessebar being conquered by the Romans, the found defense system was preserved and used during the following centuries.
After the decay of the Roman Empire the Byzantine rulers undertook an active constructional work and in the middle of the V c. AD a new fortified wall has been built in opus micstrum – alternation of stones and bricks. The best-preserved part of it can be seen today near the city gate, opposite to the strip. Here the wall was faced with big orthogonal hewn stone blocks. The gate was flanked with two square towers on both sides of which round and semicircular towers were symmetrically placed. Two gates – a drawbridge like one and a twin leafed gate closed tightly the access to the town. During the Early Byzantine period a fortified wall was built on the South – West Coast, near the port. Above it there was a row of panoramic brick arches that now give to the coast a very special picturesque view. Fragments of this wall have been found out some 80- m southwest into the sea.
The early Byzantine system has been used during all the Middle ages. In the time of war attacks of the enemy part of it was destroyed seriously but it was quickly rebuilt. The first reconstruction was deled to the end of VI c. and the beginning of the VII c., after the attacks of the Avars. After khan Kroum conquered the city in the year 812 he pulled down the wall. Later, in the end of the century it was rebuilt of bricks. In the end of the XI c. the defense system was repaired once again. During the reign of King Ivan Alexander the walls were definitely reconstructed.
After the town was subjected to Ottoman rule in 1453, the defense system lost its strategic importance and, left without any special cares, gradually declined.

Early byzantine terms

Terms/baths/ of Nessebar are situated in the lowest part of the western cost of the peninsula, on the northeast of church “St. John the Baptist”.
About 2/3 of the area of terms are explored - entrance, central hall and warm premises with pools. The other part is under a modern building. Baths are supplied by underground sewerage.
They are built V-VI c. Soon then their plan is changed. Walls are covered by marble slabs. There are places where are preserved slabs about 3m high.
Four massive columns supported a cruciform dome above the central hall.
Byzantine Emperor Constantine IV Pogonat took treatment here in 680, according written data.
The baths are destroyed in the beginning of IX c. when Bulgarian khan Krum conquered the town/812/ and are used like agricultural premises.
In X?c. in the two corners of the central hall are built lime-kilns.
The reach marble decoration of terms is the main stuff. The terms are partly conserved.

Archaeological museum

Main Hall
Nessebur, located on a small rocky peninsula, is one of the most picturesque towns along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, while its thousand-year old history and numerous cultural monuments are the reason for its taking a very special place in both Bulgarian and European science and culture. The town of Nessebur was established at the end of 2 000 B.C. by the Thracians. Greek colonizers turned it into a Greek Polis (a city-state) at the end of 6th c. B.C.; Rome joined it to the Empire in 1st c. B.C.; and A.D. 4th c. saw Nessebur within the frontiers of Byzantium. Nessebur, conquered by the Bulgarians in 812, reached its new zenith between the 13 and 15th centuries. Together with Constantinople, the capital of Byzantium, fell under the reign of the Osman Turks in 1453. In 1878 Nessebur welcomed the Russian liberation troops.
The archaeological study of the Nessebur peninsula and its aquatory done during the last four decades revealed rich collections of significant cultural monuments illustrating the history of ancient Messambria and medieval Nessebur. A large part of them are present exhibits in the new Nessebur archaeological museum. The museum exhibition area includes a foyer and four halls. The UNESCO Diploma, certifying the Ancient Nessebur registration on the world cultural heritage list in 1983, can be seen in the foyer.

Hall one - Messambria and the Thracians
The name of the town sounded different in the languages spoken by its population. Thracians and Greeks pronounced it as Messambria. Strabo, the Greek geographer, wrote, "Next comes Messam-bria, a Megara colony, earlier called Melsambria, i.e., 'the town of Melsa', for its founder was called Melsa, and the Thracian for 'town' is "bria". The Romans and Bysantines called the town 'Messembria' but they did not forget its Thracian founder. The epitaph of Roman Julia read," ...My homeland is Messambria, of Melsa and bria...". In the Middle Ages the Bulgarian inhabitants called the city "Nessebur".
A large number of stone anchors dated to 12th c. B.C. and demonstrating energetic seafaring in those early times were found in the aquatory of the two town ports. The greyish black pottery with decorations engraved and embossed, and dated to 9 -6 th c. B.C., make up the greatest part of the everyday life remains left by Ancient Thracians.
A most important inscription - decree in honour of Thracian leader Sadala, dated to 3rd century B.C., was found in Messambria. This monument supplied rich information concerning the relations between the Greek polis and neighbouring Thracians. The silver coin treasure (tetradrachmae) exhibited, where the Thracian imitations of Tassos tetradrachmae are prevalent, too, added to the knowledge of the role played by the local Thracian population in the political and economic life of the town between II nd - I st c. B.C.

Hall two - Messambria, the pontic polis
After the peninsula was colonized by settlers coming from the town of Megara and its colonies Byzantium and Calchedon at the end of 6th c. B.C., Pontic Messambria became polis of a Greek type closely connected to the way of life and culture of the peoples inhabiting the coastal areas of the Mediterranean, the Sea of Marmora and the Black Sea. Numerous monuments dated to 6-2 nd c. B.C. serve as an illustrative picture of the large trade connections, the spiritual and cultural life as well as artistic crafts flourishing in this small Thracian coastal town.
Messambria was governed by a council elected by national assembly. The council resolutions (decrees) engraved on marble were exposed in the central temple of the town, the Apollo temple. Messambria was the place where a number of memorial decrees in honour of notable persons and their noble deeds were found referring to the tutor from Calathus, Glaucus the medical doctor, the goddess; Demeter priestess, etc.
The marble votive tablets found at the foot of the Zeus temple are unique monuments demonstrating the administrative life of Messambria during 2nd c. B.C. Upon the embossed margins of these sculptural monuments there are pictures of the town magistrates; attending a solemn ceremony in honour of Melsa of the hero Sozipolis, etc.
The Messambrian sculptors have left numerous works of sepulchral and religious plastic arts.
There are life scenes of Messambrians depicted on the gravestones, e.g., Matroy, wife f Tyndareus; Calicrete, daughter of Hyparch; Menis, son of Atanayon; dancing Agazyclea, daughter of Noah, etc. Four unusually rare bronze vessels, the so called "hydryas'' were found in the Messambrian necropolis. The two hydryas exhibited used as funeral urns are decorated each below its vertical handles with an application based on Greek mythology. The Messambrians decorated their houses with statuettes of baked clay, the so called terracottas: idols, smart ladies, graceful girls. A great number of them were imported while some moulds found there witnessed to a local produce as well.
The religious life of Messambrians was marked by richness and diversity. Interest was roused by the remnant of the colossal statue of Apollo; the torso of the Heracles statue; the magnificent statue of Tyche, the goddess of chance (4th c. B.C.); etc. It is in Nessebur where the richest collection of ceramic architectural ornaments for Hellenistic houses was opened and exhibited: cymae, antefixa, frontal tiles with plastic decoration. Among the funeral gifts in Messambrian tombs some exquisitely made gold jewellery could be seen, such as hooks, fasteners, earrings, rings, necklaces, etc., part of which were made in the local jeweller's work.
As an independent polis, Messambria minted coins as early as 5th c. B.C. Gold, silver and bronze coins of several basic types were found there. Corinth helmet with a mane, the Messambrian symbol, was depicted on the face of the most widely spread coins while on the re-verse side there was a wheel equipped with spokes together with the initial letters of the town of Messa. The best image of Messambria trade connections during 6-2nd c. B.C. can be given by the imported pottery, such as blackfirn craters, kylikes, ascos, lamps, embossed bowls, the so called 'Megara cups', as well as the large number of amphorae and amphora seals found in the land and the aquatory of the peninsula.

Hall Three - Messembria with in the limits of Rome, Byzantium and Bulgaria
Messembria continued trading, minting coins, developing local crafts during the Roman reign. The pottery covered with red varnish, the marble funeral gravestones and the votive reliefs of Hercules and the Thracian Horseman are all dated back to this epoch. Another monument of interest is the marble pedestal for a bronze statue of Claudius I (A.D. 41-54) placed there by Gneus, son of Gneus, the town gymnasiarch.
After the division of the Roman Empire in A. D. 395, Messembria remained within its Eastern part. The town acquired growing significance as a strategic, economic and cultural centre in close connection to the Byzantine capital Constantinople. Massive defences and vast Christian basilicas were built. Sealed bricks bearing the names of Constan-tine and Justinian were made in the brickworks of the Byzantine capital. Marble foundations, columns, capitals of various kinds, parts of altar partitions as well as other elements belonging to the internal plastic decoration of the buildings were made and imported from the isle of Prokonissos in the Sea of Marmara.
With the establishment of the Bulgarian State in 7th century, Messembria turned into a significant military fortress of the Byzantine Empire against her new neighbour. It was not earlier than 812 that the town was conquered by Bulgarian Khan Kroum and included within the First Bulgarian State. The pottery made of grey clay are the material vestiges left by the first Bulgarian inhabitants of the peninsula.
The collection of am phorae and white-clay glazed vessels exhibited in the hall funish proofs as to the continuous trade connections between Nessebur and Constaninople and.other trade centres in 9-12th centuries. Nessebur enjoyed its great flourishing under the reign of Bulgarian kings Ivan Assen II, Todor Svetoslav, and particularly, under the reign of Ivan Alexander. The magni-ficent examples of medieval churches as well as the rich archaeological material offer a brilliant illustration of both the welfare and cultural advance of medieval Nessebur in 13-14th centuries. Arts and crafts flourished. Sculptors, icon-painters and potters worked in the town and its neighbourhood. The architectural elements with plastic ornaments used in the external and internal decoration of the temples were produced in the Nessebur sculptural ateliers. During the last decade of the Byzantine Empire Nessebur was the place where the representatives of well-known imperial families resided. The tombstone of Byzantine Princess Mattaissa Kantakhouzina Paleologuina deceased in 1441, was dated back to this period.

Hall four - Icons
A collection of Nessebur icons, brilliant examples of Bulgarian iconography dated to 13-19th centuries, is exhibited in the hall. These icons decorated the iconostases of the numerous Nessebur churches. The icons below are referred to the royal row of the iconostasis: the Virgin Mary under various names (Gracious, Protectress, etc.), St. Dimitar, St. Elephteri, Christ Pantokra-tor, Christo Archbishop. To the festive row of the iconostasis are referred : the Assumption, Christmas, the Ascension, and other saints and prophets. Also exhibited are: royal gates, episcopal throne, choirbook, and other church furniture as well as icons with a silver repousse cover.

Family hotel “Andonov” situated in the new part of Nessebar which is an ancient beautiful town famous for its quaint and friendly atmosphere.
Our hotel is at about five minutes walk from the ancient part of Nessebar, the beach and at about the same distance from Sunny Beach which is one of the greatest resorts at the Black Sea.
